Analytics & Performance
What is content performance?
Content performance is the measurement of how published content actually does against its purpose. It is deliberately broad: depending on the content’s job, it can include search rankings and AI visibility, traffic, engagement, leads, conversions and social results. Measuring performance closes the content loop, what worked shapes what gets created next, and is wider than ROI, which focuses specifically on value against cost.
What to measure, by content job
Discoverability: search positions via keyword tracking, presence in AI answers via AI visibility.
Audience: organic traffic, social reach and engagement.
Action: clicks, enquiries and sign-ups, read through conversion rate.
Value: the commercial return, assessed as content marketing ROI.
Not every piece is judged on every layer. A ranking guide is doing its job when it climbs positions and brings qualified visitors; a bottom-of-funnel comparison page is judged on enquiries. Performance measurement starts with being honest about each piece’s job.
Why it matters
Measurement is what turns publishing from a routine into a system that learns. Knowing which topics earn positions, which pieces bring visitors who act, and which formats fall flat converts the next planning cycle from guesswork into prioritisation, and it is the evidence that keeps a content programme funded when budgets are questioned.

Performance data feeds back into content ideation and flags candidates for a content refresh; the strictly financial reading is content marketing ROI.
