Content Strategy
What is content ideation?
Content ideation is the process of generating, evaluating and selecting ideas for content worth creating. Useful ideation draws on evidence, the questions customers actually ask, search demand, competitor coverage, industry news and the expertise a business genuinely holds, rather than brainstorming in a vacuum. The output is a prioritised set of ideas that deserve a place in the content calendar.
Where strong ideas actually come from
Customer questions: the things prospects ask before they buy, and clients ask after. Every recurring question is a content idea with proven demand.
Search demand: keyword research reveals what people in your market look for, and in what words.
Competitor coverage: what rivals rank for that you do not, and where their coverage is thin enough to beat.
Industry news: changes your audience needs interpreted, which only someone in the field can credibly do.
Your own expertise: the mistakes you see repeatedly, the trade-offs nobody explains, the questions people should ask but don’t.
Why it matters
Ideation is where content quality is decided at the portfolio level. A weak process produces topics nobody searches for and angles identical to everyone else’s; a good one produces a queue of ideas with evidence behind them, ready to be prioritised into the calendar. The discipline is in selection: most ideas should not survive.
