Social Media
What is a social media calendar?
A social media calendar is a schedule of planned social posts: what will be published, on which platform, on what date. It is effectively the social layer of a wider content calendar, and the two work best together, articles feed the social plan, and the calendar makes sure supporting posts actually go out rather than depending on spare moments.
Why it matters
Social posting without a plan defaults to silence punctuated by guilt. A calendar makes the channel’s rhythm visible and deliberate: posts supporting this week’s article, recurring formats on their usual days, seasonal moments prepared ahead instead of noticed too late. It also exposes imbalance early, five promotional posts in a row, or a fortnight of nothing, while there is still time to fix it.
Working with a content calendar
The social calendar works best as the social layer of the wider content calendar rather than a rival document. Each planned article generates its supporting posts, which take their places in the social plan automatically; native posts fill the gaps between. One rhythm, two altitudes: the content calendar decides what gets made, the social calendar choreographs how it travels.
