Content Distribution

Content Strategy

What is content distribution?

Content distribution is the process of getting published content in front of its intended audience. It spans owned channels such as your website, email list and social profiles, earned exposure such as search visibility, shares and mentions, and paid promotion. Publishing alone does not create an audience; distribution is how content actually gets seen.

How it works

Distribution channels group into three kinds. Owned: your website, email list and social profiles, where you control publication. Earned: visibility you cannot buy: organic search, shares, mentions, citations in AI answers. Paid: promotion that buys reach directly. Most small businesses lean on owned channels to publish and earned channels to grow, adding paid selectively where the economics work.

Why it matters

“Publish and pray” is the most common content failure: the work ends at the moment it should begin. Distribution is a plannable step, not an afterthought, the same calendar that schedules an article can schedule where it travels: the social posts that carry it, the email it anchors, the pages that link to it.
